It seems more female drummers are coming up in the East. Some decades ago, perhaps, we didn’t have professional tonbak players, but now when I think of female tonbak players, a couple of names such as Goharnaz Masaeli, Nazanin Pedarsani, Naghmeh Farahmand, Narges Torshizi, Asareh Shekarchi and so on come to my mind. The same is true about Indian tabla: Anuradha Pal, Rimpa Siva and finally Sunayana Ghosh.
Now I see that Tom Tom Magazine has introduced a female dhol player from India, Jahan Geet Singh:
